REAL LIFE STORY
TPD – Spinal Injury: $1.05 Million
Who is Tim?
Tim is a 46 year old project manager who has been working in the mining industry for 17 years.
What happened to Tim?
Tim fell on concrete injuring his lumbar spine. Not realising the extent of his injury Tim continued working for 6 months, when he ceased work and underwent a discectomy.
Tim had a TAL Superlink TPD policy (‘Any’ occupation element within super, ‘Own’ occupation element outside) which he had obtained several years earlier. When he was unsure if he would be able to return to work, Tim phoned his financial adviser who helped him to make a TPD claim on his insurance. A medical assessment confirmed that Tim was unable to meet the standard to return to his job.
Where is Tim now?
Tim was paid a TPD benefit of $1.05 million under the ‘Own’ occupation, non-super policy. This meant that Tim didn’t have to worry about work for a while and allowed him to take a long, overdue holiday with his wife and kids.
